In the heart of Uganda’s Busoga Region, an organization stands as hope, rallying communities to champion health initiatives and encouraging collective well-being. Busoga Health Forum (BHF) isn’t just an organization; it’s a community of individuals committed to a vision of “A Healthy, Thriving Busoga”. But what does it truly feel like to be a member of Busoga Health Forum?

For many, joining Busoga Health Forum represents a sense of purpose and empowerment. It’s not merely about being a passive participant; it’s about actively contributing to positive change and making a tangible difference in the lives of others. As Prof. Peter Waiswa, the Chairperson of BHF, often emphasizes, “Membership in BHF isn’t just a title; it’s a call to action- a call to serve our community with passion and dedication.”

Being a member of BHF means being part of a dynamic network of health professionals, community leaders, and passionate individuals united by a common goal. Dr. Gita Sheba, Vice Chairperson of BHF, said this sentiment, stating, “In BHF, we are not just colleagues; we are a family- a family bound by our commitment to improving healthcare outcomes and building a brighter future for Busoga.”

The spirit of collaboration and camaraderie within BHF is palpable. Members come together, leveraging their expertise and experiences to address pressing health challenges. As Dr. Moses Magada, a member of the advisory team, reflects, “BHF embodies the African proverb: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ Together, we are stronger, and together, we can overcome any obstacle.”

One of the defining features of BHF membership is the opportunity for meaningful engagement and participation. Members actively contribute to strategic planning, advocacy efforts, and community outreach initiatives. “Every voice matters in BHF. Whether you’re a frontline healthcare worker or a community organizer, your input shapes our collective impact.”, Ms. Primah Kwagala, a lawyer and Secretary of BHF, emphasizes the importance of member involvement.

The impact of BHF’s work extends far beyond the organization itself, reaching deeply within the communities it serves. Busoga Kingdom’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Owek. Osman Noor Ahmed acknowledges BHF’s impact, “BHF is not just a health organization; it is the representation of hope and progress for our region. Through their tireless efforts, they are creating the way for a healthy, more resilient Busoga.

As BHF continues to expand its reach and influence, its members remain steadfast in their commitment to driving positive change. Dr. Richard Kajura, Deputy Treasurer of BHF, emphasizes the organization’s dedication, stating, “Our work is far from over, but with every milestone we achieve, we are reminded of the immense potential within our community. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

The spirit of BHF mirrors the sentiments expressed by world-renowned leaders throughout history. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” In BHF, members find fulfillment and purpose through selfless service to their community, personifying Gandhi’s timeless wisdom.

Nelson Mandela, a beacon of hope and resilience, famously remarked, “Health cannot be a question of income; it is a fundamental human right.” BHF members are guided by this principle, tirelessly advocating for equitable access to health and championing the rights of the most vulnerable members of society.

In the words of Mother Teresa, “We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.” BHF members understand that real change begins with small, intentional actions fueled by compassion and empathy. Together, they are making a profound difference—one life, one community at a time.

Being a member of Busoga Health Forum isn’t just about joining an organization; it’s about embracing a shared vision and mission and taking the spirit of community and service personal, and through our members, we can transform health outcomes, inspire hope and resilience in the hearts of all who call Busoga home.
